Donations

We are also delighted to receive donations which can be used in the ongoing work of maintaining and restoring this wonderful and ancient building.

Disability Access

Under the terms of the Disability Discrimination Act, Symington Church is now obliged to provide full access for the disabled to the church, together with facilities, and we are only to pleased to comply with this legislation.

Work will include a ramp from the Main Street (which involves alteration at the gate) altering the surface of the access path to make it suitable for wheel chairs, rebuilding the rear porch to include a disabled toilet, re-locating the boiler room and existing steps to the upper gallery and altering the pews within the church to facilitate wheel chairs.

Costs are substantial, as various constraints have to be considered including the steep elevation of the steps up to the graveyard and location of the gravestones.  Also, in order to maintain the integrity of the church the building materials used must be of a more traditional nature.

The cost is estimated at £75,000. Whilst South Ayrshire Council maintain the graveyard, including the walls and gates, they are unable to offer financial assistance with the cost of implementing the changes the above Act requires. This means the church must raise the finance itself. To date, grant applications, pledges and donations received amount to approximately £30,000.

Anyone wishing to make a donation should contact Morag Marriott on 01563 830 713.
